Marius (156 - 86 BC) was consul several times and led a long campaign in North Africa. In order to do this he made extensive changes in the recruitment, organization and had important results for the future of Rome. Marius made being in the army a profession.
The Romans were very health-conscious. They built enormous public bathing houses where people of both sexes could wash and keep clean. Very few houses had a bath so people want to the baths for their daily wash.
